1Overview
This privacy policy explains how data is handled across the JamCams.co.uk website and the JamCams Android mobile application (available on the Google Play Store), collectively referred to as the "Service".
We provide a free utility to view public transport and traffic camera feeds provided by Transport for London (TfL). Because we do not require user accounts or registrations, our data collection footprint is minimal.
2Information We Collect
We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, phone number, or precise device identifiers on our servers.
The only data processed by the Service includes:
- Location Data: Processed entirely on your device (see Section 3).
- App Preferences: Saved cameras and UI settings, stored locally (see Section 4).
- Anonymous Usage Data: General analytics to help us improve the app and website (see Section 6).
3Location Data (App & Website)
Foreground Location: The app and website may request access to your device's location while you are actively using it. This allows the "Nearest Cameras" feature to function.
Background Location: We do not request or use background location permissions. Your location is never accessed when the app is closed or the website tab is inactive.
4Local Storage & App Data
To provide a personalised experience without requiring user accounts, we save your preferences directly to your device. This data never leaves your phone or computer.
| Data Stored | Web Platform | Mobile App |
|---|---|---|
| Favourite Cameras | localStorage (jc_favs) | Shared Preferences |
| Location Permissions | localStorage | Android OS Permissions |
| Cookie/Ad Consent | localStorage | Google UMP SDK |
How to clear: On the web, clear your browser's site data. On the mobile app, go to your Android Settings → Apps → JamCams → Storage → "Clear Data".
5TfL Data & External APIs
To provide the core functionality of the Service, your browser or app communicates directly with third-party APIs. We do not intermediate these image requests.
- Transport for London (TfL): Camera images and video feeds are sourced from the TfL Open Data API. When viewing a feed, your device requests it directly from TfL servers. TfL's privacy policy applies to these requests.
- Nominatim / OpenStreetMap: Used for converting your text searches (e.g., postcodes) into map coordinates.
- CARTO: Provides the map tiles for the interactive map interface.
6Advertising & Analytics
To keep the Service free, we use Google services to display advertisements and monitor general app/website health.
Advertising (AdSense & AdMob): We use Google AdSense (web) and Google AdMob (app) to serve ads. Google uses cookies or mobile Advertising IDs to serve ads based on your prior visits to our Service or other websites. You will be presented with a Consent Management Platform (CMP) on your first visit to choose whether you accept personalised advertising.
Analytics (GA4 & Firebase): We use Google Analytics 4 and Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the Service is used (e.g., which boroughs are viewed most often, crash reports). IP anonymisation is enabled by default.
You can manage your Google ad preferences or opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ad Center.
7Data Deletion & Your Rights
Under regulations like the GDPR and CPRA, you have the right to access and delete your data. Furthermore, Google Play Store policies require apps to provide a clear data deletion mechanism.
Data Deletion Policy: Because JamCams does not create user accounts, collect personal profiles, or transmit your saved data to our servers, there is no server-side account to delete. All of your user data (favourites, settings) exists solely on your physical device.
To permanently delete all data associated with the Service:
- Website Users: Clear your web browser's cookies and local storage for
jamcams.co.uk. - Android App Users: Uninstall the application, or navigate to Android Settings → Apps → JamCams → Storage → "Clear Data". This instantly and permanently deletes all your saved preferences.
8Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or to comply with updated Google Play Store or AdSense guidelines. The latest version will always be posted on this page with an updated effective date. (Last updated: April 2026).
